The camera sees and records only a small isolated part of the larger scene, reduces it to only two dimensions, frames it, and freezes it. It does not discriminate as we do.

As I was reading one of the websites on composition and aesthetics that Lisa provided us with, I found this quote above. It is something that we know happens when a picture is taken, but rarely do you think about it in this depth. I thought it was very eloquent and it made me think about how amazing cameras really are. They are the only way a person can look through another's eyes and maybe even find new meaning in something they have looked at for years in their own eyes. I also have one other quote that I found to be inquisitive.
Art is an invention of aesthetics, which in turn is an invention of philosophers... What we call art is a game.
Octavio Paz
Ammanda, as we each view life in such a different manner, cameras truly do help us to see life through the eyes of another. Whether it be throught the photographer or through the subject being photographed, we can get a sense of who and what is trying to be ccaptured through the "eyes"! Certainly gives us a look into the bigger picture and can take away the feelings/emotions that is trying to be conveyed!
ReplyDeleteGreat slide show! I still haven't figured out how to create a slide show... Your pictures are great!
ReplyDeleteI love those quotes, Amanda. Its definitely helpful to remember that you are only capturing part of a scene and that is all people will see or take from it.
ReplyDeleteI like the picture window shot with the window sticky's on it, it creates a neat illusion. Good idea.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite picture is the one of the kitty looking out the door. I love this one because of the framing throughout the picture, but also the bold colors and textures in it.
ReplyDeleteI see you also braved the cold and snow for your pics, I really like the cat looking out it looks as if it's waiting for spring ( unlike my cat that moved itself outside and will no longer come in the house, no more litter box lol )
ReplyDeleteThe small evergreen tree framed by its tall cousins is quite lovely. Taking shots while it is snowing is tricky, the snowfall creates so much gray it's hard to get enough contrast for a good shot, but this one works.
